Question by baby garbo: i feel like my sister is only there for me when it’s convenient for her?
i love my sister, we have been best friends our whole lives. but when she developed a drug addiction – our lives were torn apart. eventually, she recovered, but during her addiction and recovery – she did some crazy things. throughout this time, we shared an apartment and after our lease was up, my husband and i bought a home and she moved in with us. even though we had a new life, a new baby and were nervous about the consequences of having someone with such a recently crazy past (and a crazy stalker ex boyfriend) move in with us – she is my sister. and i believe that family doesn’t abandon each other. fast forward about 1 year and she has a new boyfriend. she is still living with us. one day, my car breaks down at the store and i call her to come pick me and my son (her nephew, godson) up. she tells me that she can’t because she is about 40 minutes away picking out new tile with her boyfriend and traffic will be too difficult. about 5 hours later, my hungry son and I get home afer having the car towed to the dealership and geting a ride home (from the dealership taxi). (my husband couldn’t help because he is a firefighter and was at work that day/night). i was so mad. several days later, we had a talk and i let her know that i thought it was time she considered getting her own place (ok – maybe not that nicely, but i was mad). we didn’t talk for 3 months, finally we talked again but she moved in with her boyfriend 3 months later. fast forward to last month and she invites us to an outdoor afternoon concert. i tell her that i would love to go (there is a band playing that we both love) and i ask her if we could all ride together because my husband will be working and parking at the location is tough. i let her know that would be happy to go with them and i can put my son’s car seat in their car (they have a huge SUV) or i would be happy to drive and they come with us. she never writes me back. (this conversation was via e-mail) we’re at my parents a couple weeks later and i ask about the concert and she says “oh – we are taking the motorcycle – it’s so much faster”. she totally ditched me and my son AGAIN!! after she INVITED us!!! these are just a couple of the incidents that have occured that seem outright selfish and mean to me. am i wrong to feel this way? i want my sister to be in my life and the lives of my family (husband and son) but i hate that she consistently makes me feel like i’m chopped liver!!! what can i do to improve this situation so that we can remain on good terms but i don’t feel walked on? thanks for your help!

well reading from this story im guessing your sister is younger then you which means she is more immature, which means she will do immature things. im sure what she is doing she doesnt realise is mean and is hurting you shes just thinking about herself just like any younger adult would. just love her and let herk now how you feel she will advantaullyy change!
