Question by Sean M: Why do companies put their own software on computers they sell when it slows them down so much?
If you install just a clean version of Windows XP Home your computer will start up in like 10 seconds.
But every computer you buy these days (even IBM) is loaded down with crap that makes it take forever to start. My brother has a Sony VIAO and it is un-f’ing-believable. Like it can take upwards of 4-5 minutes to start up or shut down!
Not to mention that NO ONE one planet earth needs any of the garbage they put on. It’s all right there in the freaking Operating System.
So why do they do it? Isn’t bringing the computers you sell to a crawl a bad idea from a business perspective?
If I started my own company I would sell “fast” computers by just no tputting crap on them and pocketing the money I save on hardware. …don’t steal that idea. I’m going to trademark it.
great answers!
so is this why new pc’s don’t include a OS cd anymore?

The answer is price. If all the garbage wasn’t there and you had a clean copy of windows the computer would cost twice as much.Companies pay the computer manufacturers to install their demo products and this is what makes the price go down. You are right ,they are complete garbage and the first thing you do on a new computer is to remove all that

You are SO right!!! I tell people this whenever I get the chance. Do you know that I’m using a 500Mhz 10 year old computer at home and it’s faster than most 3 gig pc’s I see?!?!?? It’s nuts but you know what – they pc makers have got the public right where they want them. If the pc is soooo slow then they’ll buy a newer, ‘faster’ one quicker.
I run games, the full MS Office suite, any internet application, AutoCAD, etc on my 500 mhz PIII at home! Yeah it’s getting dated but if I had say a 1.8Ghz I’d be flying like the wind!
Safe mode is right.Computer makers sabotage their own products to drop the price.Especially now with Vista being more expensive operating system. And then people buy a new computer and its dragging since day one so they blame Vista and downgrade to XP! This is how the downgrade lunacy started
